10 Home Activities To Do During / Whilst Under Lockdown .

Congratulations on making it through to Day 6 of the LockDown wherever you may be. Ever since President Akufo-Addo announced the 2-weeks partial lockdown, many people have increased their online activity to share how much they miss outdoor activities and how their lives have been impacted ( positively & negatively) by this lockdown.

For those still looking for new ways to survive social distancing during this lockdown, here are some fun and engaging home activities to do either by yourself or with your partner and the kids to kick out boredom.

  1. Be a Virtual Volunteer

There are a couple of private sector and citizen led initiatives like http://www.stopcovid19ghana.org coming together to help the homeless and the needy with food, medical and clothing supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

Since we can’t get together physically to provide relief, we can definitely contribute/donate to a worthy cause. You can also support these social good activities by retweeting, reposting their content on your timelines and feeds to boost engagement.

2. Become a Home Chef

Are you tired of the usual meals you prepare? Why not check out some recipes on seemychow.com for something new and exciting? Cooking is a meditative and a creative process which will get you through the days ahead in the lockdown. Do you have a cookbook which you bought last year but yet to cook any of the sumptuous meals? Now is a great time. Have fun cooking!

3. Spring clean Out Your Wardrobe.

There’s a saying that if you haven’t worn a particular dress for more than a year then you need to give it out. Spend some time going through your wardrobe and cleaning out forgotten shoes and clothes which you can donate to a charity organisation. You will definitely feel good about a clean and well-organised wardrobe whilst also being able to meet someone’s clothing needs. It’s definitely a win!

4. Create an online Bible Study Club

Downtime means lots of time to connect with God through His Word. Why not make that time a networking God-connecting event? You can create a virtual Bible study group for a number of your friends at church and use available online tools such as Hangouts, Skype or Zoom to connect and have live discussions. You can also schedule Instagram Live sessions where you pick select life topics and share Bible verses connected to them. That’s a good one!

5. Share Your Expertise

Whether you a chef, digital marketer, software engineer, teacher, baker, pianist or a dancer you can share your expertise online using Zoom and other online streaming tools. By doing this, you are connecting on a deeper level with your audience by sharing what you are best known for and by the time the lockdown is over, you would have created a loyal fan/customer base.

6. Learn A New Language

Learning a new language is always a plus. Online tools like Babbel , Duolingo (Free) Memrise and RosettaStone are some of the best must-download language apps giving you access to several international languages ranging from Spanish, French , Portuguese and Chinese. What about picking up some useful everyday Akan language, you should check out LearnAkan for great Akan lessons.

7. Master Board Games

Here’s a great opportunity to become a master player at a particular board game you’ve always been last in 😅. Look online for all the strategies and start playing by yourself or whoever you are at home with. By the time we are all free to socialise and have our usual game nights guess who’s going to be winning.

8. Improve On Your Gardening Skills.

Use this time to work on your home garden which you’ve neglected for some time because of work and social activities . Gardening is therapeutic and a fabulous opportunity to beautify your home and gardening knowledge. Research online on how to get your flowers to bloom, follow gardening experts like Planterina on Instagram for amazing planting tips.

9. Learn How To Bake

Baking can seem terrifying and extremely challenging if you have ever thought of having a go at it. With the time you have on your hands, find baking recipes from tried and true baking experts such as Jamie Oliver’s website, JoyofBaking and CupCakes By Jemma . It’s said that, tithe kneading of dough is highly relaxing and what better way to do that with a cushiony soft dough. Heaven.

10. Braid or Cut Your Own Hair.

Let’s face it, now is not the best of time to go to your barber’s or salon. Learn how to cut your hair if you can buy hair clippers online and watch YouTube tutorials on how to give yourself a haircut or maybe a fade. There are also hair braiding tutorials to watch for braiding your own cornrow, Senegalese or kinky twists. You get to save loads of money by learning these braiding skills.
