Abol Cafe -An Ethiopian City Cafe in Accra.

Finding quiet spots in Accra to have good coffee and a chat isn't that hard. The food scene in Accra has blossomed or blown up over the past three years even with Covid-19 and all. There's always a new eatery to discover every now and then in either East Legon, Labone, Cantonments, Airport Residential and the home of all good food; Osu.

Discovering Abol Cafe came through a friend's suggestion as a a place to have a business chat. I was particularly curious as he mentioned in passing that it was an Ethiopian Cafe. I'm always up for a new African food adventure! Let's go!!

Abol Cafe is on the ground level of an office building on the Rangoon lane and next to Burger Boyz. That side of Cantonments where the roads are perfectly tarred and sidewalks are free of street hawkers.

Step inside Abol and you'll feel the need to stay longer for your meeting. Minimalist chic interiors with African pieces details sums up the feel with a luxurious fragrance of coffee beans wafting through the air enveloping you with a strong desire for a latte.

Ethiopian coffee is heralded as one of the best coffee exporters in the world and is the country of origin for the legendary Coffea Arabica (Arabic Coffee). Their coffee beans have floral and fruity notes and are known to have minimal acidity. I was glad to be in an authentic Ethiopian coffee house.

The Latte was splendid and lovingly topped with beautiful latte art which is quite rare in most coffee houses in Accra. It's taste was slightly fruity with an inviting aroma. It wasn't too heavy which made drinking more delightful. I was sated.

The menu was simple with all-day breakfast offerings and touches of Ethiopian and global cuisine starters and lunches. I chose the local path and went with Chechebsa a famous Ethiopian breakfast dish.

Chechebsa

Fascinating flavour and texture! I've never had anything like it before! Cups of yogurt and honey accompanied this meal and the combination of these elevated the dish! Chechebsa is a fried version of a Flatbread which is torn into bits and spiced with berbere and Niter Kibbeh (Ethiopian ghee) spiced butter . It was quite chewy and I had to save the rest for later as my meeting was about to start.

So much good surrounding light streamed in from the large windows and touched every element of the Cafe.

Inbuilt wall sockets in the dining area meant you could stop by for breakfast, lunch and continue your remote work/ online meeting. Service was quick and efficient.

It's not very pricey with prices ranging from GHC 20 to GHC 60 which is the average price for meals in most restaurants. This was a welcome change from the noise and bustle of Osu a true definition of a peaceful oasis. It's the destination for quiet lunches, brunch with your inner circle friends, even a reading club session. Anytime you want to wait out the traffic after work, this is the spot for you. This cafe deserves a second and tenth visit. ☕️👌🏾.
