Amazing Uses of Shea Butter During, After Pregnancy & For Baby.

The amazing uses of Shea Butter just keeps growing and surpassing it’s previous use for our natural hair and combatting the dryness of harmattan. Shea Butter is now an everyday lifestyle product to have at home for varied uses.

Shea butter is fat extracted from the shea tree which grows in abundance in Northern Ghana and several African countries as well. It’s not only popularly used in cosmetics but is also a key ingredient in the confectionery industry. Did you know you can replace other vegetable oils with Shea Butter? Absolutely!

I recently discovered how more awesome this natural God-given yellow gold is especially during my pregnancy and postnatal period. Just have a read and see for yourself.

  1. Reduce Pregnancy Belly Itching

Rub a teaspoonful of shea butter on your baby bump to reduce the itchiness which come the stretching of your skin as your baby grows. You will get an incredible relief from the creaminess and magic of shea.

2. Have Sore Feet?

Soak your achy or swollen feet in warm water for 5 minutes and let hubby rub and massage shea butter all over your feet to the ankles. You will feel so much more relaxed.

3. Reduce Achy Back Pains

Back pains during pregnancy are simply intolerable and as the months wear on and baby gets bigger, moving around is so tough. Melt down some shea butter into the oil stage and allow to cool, add a three drops of peppermint and lavender essential oil and mix thoroughly. Call hubby to give you a good massage with the shea oil just before you go to bed. You are assured of better sleep and a less achy back. Baby will happy as well unless he’s a kicker at night. 😅

4. Relieve The Pain of Breast Engorgement.

Breast engorgement is not only uncomfortable but also painful and can easily lead to mastitis if left untreated. Engorgement happens when you don’t pump out milk enough or allow baby to suckle enough times. Your breasts becomes firm, swollen and painful to the touch. To relieve the pain of engorgement; drop a face towel in hot water , wring it out and apply to your breasts in a massaging circular movement. Apply shea butter after 5 minutes and continue massaging. This will relax the breast muscles and milk-carrying veins and make it easier for you to express and less painful when baby suckles.

5. Ease & Relieve Baby’s Constipation.

A constipated baby is not a happy baby. An unhappy baby means a worried-to-death mommy. Baby can be constipated for so many reasons and especially when you get him started on first solids. It’s such a trying phase for many new moms. Apply Shea Butter to baby’s bum and rub several times when baby is unable to bring out the poop. Keep rubbing it on the bum cheeks and around the anal sphincter in a firm but gentle motion (but do not insert finger). It works wonders! My baby’s Nanny did this one time and once the muscles relaxed, the poop came out. She slept so deeply that afternoon.

6. Baby Hair & Skin Care

Shea Butter is a natural skin emollient for both Mom and baby. Apply shea to baby’s skin immediately after a bath to trap in the moisture leading to beautiful skin smoothness. Avoid adding essential oils to a newborn baby’s skin as this can cause allergies and other severe skin reactions. A few drops when baby is a year old is much safer. Do same for yourself as a mommy especially after a long diaper day.

7. Prevent Diaper Rashes

There are many diaper rash creams on supermarket shelves but the ultimate one is pure raw shea butter which most of these creams are made from anyway. Save money and use natural shea butter before putting baby in diapers and after each diaper change. Your baby will forever have that perfect baby bum smoothness.
