Juliet Acheampong, Ghanaian Nurse Miraculously Delivers Twins In A Bathroom & A Taxi.

A truly remarkable, miraculous delivery of twins in a taxi! Juliet Acheampong a nurse at Obom Health Center, had gone to Kumasi to visit her parents who were ill and little did she know that she’d be helping save the life of a mother and her twins!

Nurse Juliet Acheampong

Juliet was at her parent’s house in Kumasi when a neighbour rushed in to come out to help with a medical emergency. She quickly left the house without a clue as to what kind of emergency it was only to discover that a woman in her area was in premature labour in her bathroom. Unfortunately, the pregnant woman by the name of Sister Adwoa lived in an uncompleted building with her husband thus very little to no sanitising resources was on hand for the delivery. Quickly, Juliet asked one of the neighbours present to bring polythene bags to protect her hands in the interim but thankfully another person said they had gloves at home and it was brought for her to use. It was a single glove for her right hand.

The baby was delivered whilst she lay on the bathroom floor however Juliet noticed that the abdomen was bulging and as she examined her, she realised that there was another baby in there! The pregnant woman confirmed it only after she asked her. What was she to do? She didn’t know what kind of twins pregnancy it was and now cutting the cord had become an impossibility due to the lack of information available to her. Juliet then asked the husband to call a taxi due to the complication of the birth. Sister Adwoa was then assisted to walk to the car with the first baby STILL attached to the umbilical cord and held by the nurse. This was quite a distance as retold by Nurse Juliet.

Finally, in the taxi , Juliet prayed several times whilst holding her hands to encourage her and keep her conscious. The road to the Manhyia Hospital was terrible and wrought with potholes which put the expectant mother in severe pain to the point that the taxi had to stop by the roadside. Sister Adwoa said she couldn’t bear it and that the baby was coming. It was only then Juliet realised that the second baby was in breech!

“ JESUS!” shouted Juliet in the car upon this realisation. She didn’t have any medical skills on this complication so she just prayed and asked God to help her. She asked Sister Adwoa to be strong as this was going to be painful and then proceeded to insert her hand into her vagina and placed the two feet of the baby together and by some miracle the umbilical cord wasn’t wrapped around the baby’s neck and the second baby came out. The mother however was bleeding heavily. They reached Manhyia Hospital and Juliet flew into the hospital requesting assistance. The hospital staff were a bit sluggish and unresponsive to the emergency which made Juliet rush around to get the required medical resources. Sister Adwoa had apparently delivered prematurely (8 months due to full term) She received blood transfusions on admission.

Thankfully, both mother and twins are in excellent health thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of Juliet Acheampong.
